A6 - The Terrace Standard, Wednesday, February 1, 1995 Premier’s Kemano stand blasted Dear Sir: I categorically reject outright every imaginable reason the Premier of B.C. has stated for _ Kemano Completion causing ir- reparable harm to the fisheries stocks of the whole Fraser River system. ; These statements are erroneous, purely fictitious, and not sup- ported by the B c. Project ey Dear Sin I would. respond to our Premier's decision: to halt the Kemano Completion Project with _ 8ome queries and comments that have their basis in fact and not in political desperation, ‘Kemano 1 was built at the re- quest of the B.C. govemment. Successive’ govemments en- couraged hydro-clectric develop- ment. Our Provincial government sided with Alcan in challenging the federal government and it was at-the request of the government of B.C. that the 1987 settlement "agreement was signed and al- lowed it to be settied out of court. Four to six ‘permanent jobs would have been created, . This does not include lost revenues in ex- cess of tens of millions of dollars for businesses in B.C, B.C. Hydro, a crown corpora- _ tion, would have been able to purchase this power cheaply and ‘realize a profit of more than 200 per. cent in conservative estimates. This profit benefits the - economy of B.C. and Canada. . The tens of millions of dollars in camings could have been applied to reduce our deficit. In summary, why Mr, Harcourt - did this mystifics me! His deci- sion, based not on the BCUC report, but on political vote- getting, has dealt an economic blow to our future economy. Tax revenues lost, profits rejected, jobs thrown away, all for what? Our government is currently running a deficit that this project could have lessened. Has KCP been killed merely to guarantee Mr. Harcourt enough votes to get re-elected? ‘Well, Mike, you have lost my vote. . Kenneth J. Dageg, ~. ‘Kemano, B,C B+ not earned Dear Sir: Ihave written to the mayor a number of times on various issues but he has not shown the courtesy of any response. Your. paper carried the Christ- mas spirit a bit too far by giving him a B+ for performance, T used to be an alderman in an- other city and I know that things are never so good that the mayor would not have anything to say, I would simply dub our mayor ‘Silent Jack’? and like they say ~~ The person who never makes any mistakes is. the guy who never does anything. , Andy Nahess, Terrace, B.C, other is merely a ludicrous way of spreading fear and loathing throughout the province as his government pollsters prepare for formerly a West Coast salmon fisher, I made a special trip to Newfoundland to explore and jear first hand from the primary CORRESPONDENCE FOR THE TERRACE STANDARD The Mail Bag a spring election, This comparison it irrational and devoid of even a fragment of reason. . One hour a week is . not sufficient practice time to physically ready a team for these events. The teams they _ have defeated to qualify for these events get five to six hours of practice time every week, Let's show some civic pride by doing what we can to pro- vide another couple of hours their abounding ability. of practice time for the Ter- race Midget Reps. What F am suggesting is for other ice users to give an hour or so of ice time per week 80 that the Terrace Reps can do their best at these events. Practice time should be evenings as these young men go to school and must. have passing grades to qualify for the team. .Come.on Terrace, let's give some support to these players and do what we can to enable them to compete to the best of Sandy Sandhals Terrace, B.C, Western _ Family Mushrooms Pieces and Stems 12 x 284 mi.
