Communty support for the students’ protest against the 300 per cent increase in B.C. Hydro bus fares was brought sharply into focus by Presi- dent Wyman Trineer, Local 1-357, before the New West- minster City Council. He headed the New West- minster Parents’ Fare Protest Committee delegation which co-ordinated the representa- tion of various protest groups. A resolution presented to the Council demanded re-ex- amination of the fare increase as it applied to students in order to alleviate the hard- ship imposed. It was based on evidence to show that the fare increase had severely increased the monetary difficulties of famil- ies endeavouring to secure educational opportunities for their children.
