THE WESTERN CANADIAN LUMBER WORKER —

TRINEER SPARKS

Ross retires

The resignation of Bob Ross
as Regional 3rd Vice-Presi-
dent and Safety Director was
accepted by the IWA Region-
al Executive Board when in
session Jan. 14-15, Brother
Ross asked to be relieved of
his duties for health reasons.

Announcing acceptance of
the resignation, Regional
President, Jack Moore, said:

“The Regional Executive
Board accepted the resigna-
tion submitted by Brother
Ross with regret. Our Union

has reason to recall with ap-
preciation his enthusiastic
promotion of safety in the
lumber industry. We extend
to him our good wishes for re-
stored health.”

President Moore also an-
nounced that an appointment
for the unexpired portion of
the term for Regional 3rd
Vice-President will be made
at the February meeting of
the Regional Executive
Board.

Communty support for the
students’ protest against the
300 per cent increase in B.C.
Hydro bus fares was brought
sharply into focus by Presi-
dent Wyman Trineer, Local
1-357, before the New West-
minster City Council.

He headed the New West-
minster Parents’ Fare Protest
Committee delegation which
co-ordinated the representa-
tion of various protest groups.

A resolution presented to
the Council demanded re-ex-
amination of the fare increase
as it applied to students in
order to alleviate the hard-
ship imposed.

It was based on evidence to
show that the fare increase
had severely increased the
monetary difficulties of famil-
ies endeavouring to secure
educational opportunities for

their children.
