Dear Mayor Traboulay and Members of Council:

The School District #43 Joint Family Court Committee hosted a forum on
dolescent suicide on April 17, 1991 in the Como Lake United Church.
The forum was attended by professionals in the district
concerned with every aspect of juveniles from church ° leaders
to teachers to fire fighters, They listened to a panel of
members carefully chosen from the hospitals, schools, mental

health and counselling areas.

The inedeptr discussion that followed brought forth several
important points. | Funding is required to expand services
‘currently available, to meet the growing demands in our community.
The Vancouver model of SAFER drew all round applause and is the one we
would like to achieve in this community. A task force was appointed
to prepare proposals to be discussed with the appropriate Provincial
Ministry.

On behalf of the Family Court Committee, I would like to thank Mayor
and Council who generously aided. the Committee's efforts in sponsoring

this forum.

As a follow-up to this Forum two representatives from this Committee,
Ms. Elke Henschel and Mr. Phil MacLeod would like to appear before
City Council and give a brief presentation of the results of this
Forum and the anticipated Goals. . |
