CORRESPONDENCE & PETITIONS: Alderman Laking voted against the resolution, From the Department of Lands, Forests and Water Resources, September 2ist, Dept.Lands, . a : etc.re 1973, in reply to a letter from His Worship the Mayor dated September lith, 1973 Flood Con- trol regarding this area's flood control projects under the Federal-Provincial Flood Control Agreement, advising that the present plans of the Federal-Provincial Joint Advisory Board call for completion of preliminary engineering of the impro- vements of the existing dyking works in March or April, 1974; however, the Coquitlam River Flood Control improvements will be a separate project and that it is intended to draft 4 study program which will be discussed with local gov- ernments and interested groups with an aim to develop an acceptable plan therefor which will then have to be examined from an economic feasibility point of view, Alderman Mabbett referred to a meeting with the Association of Concerned Citizens held last Friday evening on the subject of flood control, and at that time Mr. Mark Rose, M.P. for this area, agreed to discuss temporary alleviation of some of the problems, such as additional pumps, with our local M.L.A. Aider- man Traboulay stated he could not understand the rationale of the Provincial Govern-ent insisting on cost-sharing arrangements locally because flood control : is important for the entire Prevince. Alderman Laking referred to a previous meeting in Victoria with the Deputy Minister, who had at that time advised that plans would be forthcoming, and pointed out that this statement has now been confirmed in the letter above-mentioned. Alderman Traboulay referred to the re- marks previously made by Alderman Mabbett, and stated he felt it was incumbent upon this Council to formally contact our M.L.A. in regard to immediate flood control measures. Moved by Alderman Traboulay: Seconded by Alderman Lakine: That a letter be sent to our local M.L.A., Premier David Barrett, vequest- ing immediate relief regarding improvements to the flood gates and pumping faci- lities in Port Coquitlan; AND THAT a copy of the letter be sent to The Honourable R.A. Williams, Minister of Lands, Forests, and Water Resources. Carried.
