AG - The Terrace Standard, Wednesday, December 9, 1998 Many share blame for death Dear Sir: The recent shooting death of another doctor who per- formed abortions has sct off the predictable hysteria by the - inedia, always cager to exploit a newsworthy event to pro- mote their own politically correct agendas, in this case, abortion on demand. In endless newscasts, we have seen a barrage of carefully selected clips portraying the doctor as a compassionate; humanitarian. He has been made a modern-day hero, Perhaps the doctor was indeed a nice guy, a good father, responsible citizen, a respected physician, etc. He must also have been a man with nerves of stcel, no stomach, and a heart of stone. He was a doctor who did late-term abortions — a partic- ularly grisly procedure performed on unborn babies who. are too big to be aborted by the suction method, These more mature babies, defenseless and innocent, are destroyed and removed from their mothers’ wombs by having their skulls crushed and bodies dismembered. It is a death by torture. This cold-blooded “waste of life is all the more tragic when one realizes that many of these late-term abortions were babies only a few months from birth, Children who, had they been allowed ta be bom, would have been a true gift, even if they could not be raised by their birth mothers, to-one of the thousands of childless couples who wait year after year on adoption waiting lists, quietly despairing they will ever be blessed with a child. In 1969, the abortion laws of Canada were changed to al- tow for abortions in the hard cases, such as incest arid rape. A mere 30 years later, the crack in the door has becn pushed open wide to allow a monster in that we can no longer controf. It is called abortion on demand, abortion at any stage of pregnancy for any reason. Hence the develop- ment of techniques and sanclioning of late-term abortions. Walkers have Dear Sir: I keep reading in the paper about how city council and by-law enforcement officer Frank Bowsher are talking about enforcing jaywalking by-laws in Terrace. This is fine for the downtown area of Terrace, but what about the section of Keith Avenue that has a crosswalk by Tim Horton’s and then another (if you were to go by the law) up behind the Skeena Mall. _ To get to the many businesses on Keith Avenue (a video store, a record store, electronic store, a gas station, a restaurant and a bus depot to name a few) you would have to walk 15 minutes ont of your way to get to any of these, if you were coming from the south side of town. I have seen many people with children have to play dodge the vehicles to get to the other side of the highway where all the businesses are, Just because I do not drive does not mean that I do not ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION BRANCH 13 Ring In New Years at the Legion Cocktails 7 pm Dinner 8 pm Dancing 9 pm Dance to the Mothballs!...°\ Tickets $25.00 ea. Wrong by the laws of man and in the eyes of God. Abortion, while a violent act itself, will never be stopped by more violence. However, many share in the blame for his death: — those who support, flatter, pressure, beg and pay for doctors to do abortions *“— those who have made choice their god — those who believe that a woman’s equality and dig- nity is achieved only when she denies an essential part of her true femininity-the ability to bear and nurture a child — those who see children as a hindrance to the ‘‘good”’ life — those who measure the ‘‘good’? fife by its material success — those who promote no consequence, no commitment 5eX — those doctors who refuse to put down the medical weapons of war against the unborn — those legislators and politicians who created and passed pass laws that have resulted in this epidemic slaughter of innocent human life — those who, while privately opposed to abortion, would never publicly stand against it Let us all examine our consciences. Personally and coi- lectively, our indifference or callousness is responsible for this assault on life.
