proposed dyking
program

The City Engineer advised that Provincial representatives were in
attendance to explain the dyking and drainage program proposed for the
City, and after mentioning he and the Assistant City Engineer were very
impressed with the quality of work and soundness of recommendations
contained in several reports - the most recent of which was received in
September, he then introduced Mr. Jackson, Assistant Inspector of Dykes,
Mr. D. Fuller, in charge of all dyking projects, and Mr. E. Bonham,
Manager for the particular project proposed for the City. Mr. Fuller
then spcke to the meeting and stated he had enjoyed working with the
City Engineer and with the City. Mr. Fuller advised that upon completion
of a study now underway by Crippen Engineering Ltd., the City will enter
into an agreement with the Province and proceed with the works. Mr.
Bonhan then spoke to the meeting and advised that his particular role
was one of co-ordinating ind communicating with the different levels of
government involved, and he explained the proposed improvements to the
dyking and drainage system in the City. Alderman Thompson inquired
whether the projected increased development on Burke Mountain had been
taken into consideration with respect to the improvements proposed, and
Mr. Bonham advised it was not, as the program has certain limits. To
Alderman Traboulay's query that the project may not commence for about a
year, Mr. Fuller stated it would be difficult to imagine construction
underway sooner. Alderman Traboulay inquired whether improved pumping
would be provided this year, and Mr. Fuller advised nothing can be done

until the program is underway.
