Theatre fills with the sound of hope:

A SELLOUT crowd at the R.E.M. Lee
turned out for a massive benefit concert
featuring ‘Terrace’s performing arts
community, raising more than $7,700
for the Canadian Red Cross and its
tsunami relief efforts in Asia.

The Jan. 28: Help Live concert and
silent auction’ began with the haunting

voices of Grade 4 and 5 students sing-’

ing. We can make a difference, while a
~ slide show of the areas left devastated
by the Dec. 26 earthquake and isunami
played ona screen behind them.

“It turned out to be quite moving.
the presentation of the kid's voices in
the. dark, and the images of the tsuna-
mi,” organizer Robin Hollett said.

The show ended on a similarly poi-
gnant note, as more than 170 perform-
ers gathered on stage (some pictured
’ above) to lead the audience ina reprise

of the song. “It filled the theatre.”

The show pooled the creative tal-
ents of 175 performing artists. Groups
included the Aurora Quartet, the Sweet
Adelines, the Classical Act String En-

_semble, the Uplands Elementary cho-
rus, Northwest Singers,
Community .Big Band, the Northern
Conservatory of ‘Dance, Sophia Pala-
hicky’s dancers, and Dr. Fishy. Coun-

success, drawing in $2,900. Items up
for. bid ranged from home-fashioned
gift baskets and locally-crafted pottery
to a fishing trip and a dinner delivered
