On January 7, 1994, in Mills Memorial Hosptial, she passed away at the age of 79, She was born on September 22, 1914 in, Niagara Falls. Juanita was known to bark a few orders and wrestle like a bulldog with those who ob- stracted her plans. But she had a heart of gold and lived by the Golden Rule, Juanita’s philosophy was. ‘to do without something yourself if it’ll help somebody clse. 1 believe that and do that.’ And right to the end, she did. On December 24, Juanita com- pleted her 25th Christmas Golden Rule Goodie Bag grocery distrib- ution to 133 needy Terrace resi- denis, Almost single-handedly, she raised funds through the annual Goodie Bag raffle with prizes generously donated by local mer- chants. She was a fixture in the Skeena Mall each November and Decem- ber flogging the raffle tickets, Since her arrival in Terrace in 1960, Juanita Hatton played an active role in the development of Terrace. She was president of the Ter- race and District Chamber of Commerce for one term. She worked on plans to re-open the hotsprings resort at Lakelse Lake. She.ran the Golden Rule Employ- ment Agency for 13 years. Juanita was honoured as a recipient of a Canada 125 medal in honour of the country’s 125th birthday in 1992, Juanita was well-known for her staunch support of the Liberal Party. She ran as a candidate in the 1991 provincial election in the face of protesis by her executive that she was too old, She was also a life member of the federal Liberal Party, Juanila Lorraine Hatton (nec Fernandez) is survived by her only daughter, Blossom Garrow of St. Thomas, Ontario and pre- deceased by her son David (ia Quesnel when he was 13 years old). She leaves four grand- children and ooine — great- grandchildren, Juanita visited with all but one great-grandchild when she travelled back east last fall for Jean Chretien’s swearing- in ceremony as Prime Minister. Everyone who knew her had at least one ‘‘Juanita story’’. She'll be missed, but her memory and the goodwill of her work will live on, A memorial service was held for Juanita L. Hatton at the Sacred Heart Parish, Friday, Jan- uary 14, 1994 at 2 pm.
