As it exists, says Sandhals, the intersection presents a hazard to the travelling public and it would be in everyone’s best in- terest if the situation were cor- rected. And with the help of the regional district, he says, the association hopes that some of the red tape separating the cur- rent situation from a solution can be eliminated. _ , Sandhals says that the 180 lake residents in the area feel street lighting would do much to eliminate the nighttime hazard, and they’re prepared to pay one- third of the cost. The balance, he says, would be paid by the Ministry of Highways. Regional district administrator Bob Marcellin said that a lighting project would be similar to one done at the Gossen Creek sub- division last year. On the safety issue, the ‘regional district agrees with San- dhals and has written a letter to the Ministry of Highways asking that they include an amount for street lighting at the intersection in their 1990 budget. In ‘addi- tion, they’ve gone one step fur- ther and asked the ministry to investigate the possibility of ad- ding a left-turn lane at the in- tersection for northbound traf- _ fic. According to Cooper, com- mercial trucks using Hwy. 37 are travelling at least the speed limit and northbound cars wanting to _ turn left onto Lakelse - Lake Lodge Road present an un- necessary hazard to anyone in the vicinty. of the intersection. | -INSIDE Summer School of the Arts here?
