A good showing at a recent Bronze Marit meat in Kitimat was the reward for long hours of training for Terrace Peaks Joanna Mutschke, Rebecca Heenan, Darkynne Bratd and Rosy Sanghera. They all won trophies at the first annual Clarence Michiel Elementary Schools’ Badminton tournament at Thorn- hill Junior High School on Feb. 27. Winner and runnersup in all four events each took home a souvenir trophy from this event that attractad more than 100 boys and girls. Organizers felt the tourna- ment was highly successful and will likely be a regular event — for pre-high school children in future. Over a 10-hour period, they managed to play three flights of boys and girls singles, and boys and girls doubles. Each winner and runnerup won a_ small trophy as a reward for their achievement. Girls Singles ‘A’ flight — Chrystal Sparks Smithers wrestlers 10th Against the strongest competi- tion in the province, Smithers wrestlers came home with a 10th place finish from the B.C..high school finals at Campbell River. They were up against 75 other schools and more than 400 com- petitors overall, Individually, Cameron John- son picked up the gold in the 63-kilo class. A bronze went to Ian Meier in 78-kilos. Other top finishers included Bryan Shorier and Kevin Ewald with fifth- place finishes in their weight classes. . Meanwhile, coach Mike Richey and five Smithers pro- ducts are at Quebec this week for national espoir and junior championships. Among the group is Craig Roberts, former national juven- ile champ who now wrestles out -of Simon Fraser University.
