Consultant Selection
Planning Committee Recommendation

RECOMMENDATION: That City Counci! endorse the Planning Committee

recommendation of retaining Coriollis Consultants.

BACKGROUND:

1. During budget deliberations for 1984, City Council! approved
Including monies for retaining consultative services to prepare an
economic development strategy for the City's south-east industria}
area.

2. The initiative, preparing a strategy, is based on the recent
completion of a major Industrial development study for the lower
maintand by the regional districts in conjunction with the

provincial Ministry of Industry and Smai!l Business. In addition,
the City is preparing an Official Community Plan amendment -
detail plan of development for the industrial area with financial

assistance of a provincial government Revenue Sharing Act grant
for planning.

Due to the extensive amount of tnformation avatlable from the
tower maintand study, it was felt to be a good opportunity to
carry that project forward and prepare an economic development
strategy - marketing plan for Port Coquitlam.

COMMENTS:

1. Requests for proposal were mailied to four consulting firms.
Responses were received from alt four of the firms contacted.

2. rlefly, what was requested was to follow the provincial!
governments lower mainiand [ndustrial study, focusing on Port
Coquitiam. What Is to be achieved by the project Is to determine
what activities can be attracted here to Improve the City's share

of the industrial market.
