February 2nd, 1981 Moved by Alderman Keryluk: Seconded by Alderman Tvaboulay: That the verbal recommendation of the Public Works Committee, presented this evening, that tha Welcher Avenue Dump be closed forthwith be adopted. Prior to passage of the resolution quoted above, Alderman Muldoon advised that in her opinion residents of the City should be encouraged to recycle their garbage or to use alternate municipal and commercial dumping sites that were still in operation. Mayor Laking advised that in his opinion there would still be eveat problems with garbage and that simply closing the Welcher Avenue Dump, although he was in favour of that action, wouldn't cause all of the problems to dis- appear. Moved by Alderman Traboulay: Seconded by Alderman Keryluk: That the Public Works Committee be charged with the responsibility of looking for an alternate site for the storage of garbage. Carried, warried. Alderman Muldoon voted against the Resolution, Prior to passage of the resolution quoted above, Alderman Muldoon advised that residents should be encouraged to recycle their garbage. NEW BUSINESS: Alderman Muldoon referred to-a recent car derailment in the CP Rail yards and in answer to her enquiry His Worehip the Mayor advised that a report on this incident would be forthcoming at an early date. Alderman Muldoon referred to a series of seminars on emergency measures and in response to her enquiry concerning the holding of such a seninar in Port Coquitlam, the City Administrator advised that he would obtain more Specific information. Alderman Traboulay referred to the "picket passes" recently issued to Council members to enable then to carry out their duties as elected officials and His Worship the Mayor answered Alderman Traboulay's inquiry concerning the holding of the meeting in the "Campbell Room" by saying that it was out of consideration for the Public as this had been the site of the meeting that had been advertised, Mayor Laking went on to say that he had been assured by the Canadian Union of Public Employees that there would be no picketing of the City Hall on Monday evenings and that the Council meetings would be returning to Cit, Nall. /5.
