VC! | COUNCIL AGENDA May 11th, 1979 | MAY 14 4979 TO: Mayor and Counci] FROM: Leisure Activities Committee ITEM NO. 1 - Senior Citizen's Workshop Equipment The Committee have received a request from the Senior Citizen's New Horizon Committee to purchase some power tools for the Workshop Room. Please see the attached letter. The Committee does not agree with the purchase of the 10" Bandsaw, 8" or 9" -tablesaw and 4" jointer for the following reasons: 1. Safety 2. Noise and Dust Problems - The room is not designed for this type of equipment. 3. Storage - There is not adequate storage to house items that participants would be working on. 4, Maintenance - Costs would be high due to dust nroblems. However, the Leis. 4ctivities Committee does agree that the 1/2" drill press and bench grinder be purchased. ITEM NO. 2 - Security Devosit There have been problems with adult dances in regard to clean-up and damage over the past few months. On two occasions, the group putting on the dance have been from outside Port Coquitlam and we have had difficulty getting money for damages and clean-up. The committee would like to make the followina recommendation: 1. That organizations who are non-Port Coquitlam based, be charged a security deposit of $100.00 that would be returnable upon satisfactory completion of the rental agreement. ITEM NO. 3 - Beer Gardens We have received a request from two organizations who wish to apply for beer permits for their ball tournaments. In order for these organizations to obtain a permit, it is necessary for Council] to recognize these events as an annual function.
