NEW BUSINESS: Alderman Thompson advised that as the pollution count is down, swimming in Ccquitlam swimming is apparently now safe in the Coquitlam River from a health standpoint; however, as a word of caution to young people, he pointed out that the river is not a very safe place to swim, and at the request of Acting-Mayor Alderman Traboulay, the City Engineer advised he would check into that situation. Alderman Laking spoke to the proposed construction of a central iproposed central auditorium to be undertaken jointly between the School District and the three municipalities involved, pointing out that bussing students from all the schools to it was an aspect that had heretofore not been looked at, and advising that several school principals had expressed concern that possibly all of the student per capita grant would be required just for bussing the students to and from the auditorium. Alderman Laking then gave Notice of a Motion he intended to submit to a forthcoming Council meeting that the Administrative staff of the three municipalities involved and that of the School Board look at the practicability of a central auditorium with respect to the cost of bussing students to and from its however, Alderman Ranger suggested, that as the Leisure Activities Committee has only just begun to look at the proposal for a central audi- torium, this item, including the aspect of bussing, be left with that Committee for further study and report back to Council.
