x x st ant OS SON ENE CH | - | C 0 xr Fi 39] WAG Report from the Environmental Sub Committee and the Public Works Committee FEB 9G 1973 The following is a joint report from the Environmental Sub Comnittee and the Public Works Committee in connection with the Revised Recommendations Regarding Floodplain and Floodproofing Policies, The Committees met in the Council Chambers of the City Hall, Thursday, February 22, 1973. Present were Chairman Alderman Meyer; Alderman Len Traboulay; V.G. Borch, P.Eng., City Engineer and L.D. Pollock, City Administrator. Floodplain and Floodproofing Policies The Committees considered the revised recommendations regarding floodplain and floodproofing policies that are presently being discussed by the Greater Vancouver Regional District. The Committees recommend as follows: G.V.R.D. Recommendations ‘ Committees' Recommendations 1. That the GVRD recognize the floodplain 1. This item be endorsed with the policies of the Official Regional Plan and additional recommendaticn that the the Fraser River Flood Control Programs as G.V.R.D. review the floodplain lines important but incomplete means for dealing presently in effect. with the flood risks in the Lower Fraser Valley. 2. That nevertheless the G.V.R.D. re-affirm 2. Committee endorses this statement. present floodplain and floodproofing policies of the Official Regional Plan because they are an instrument to: (a) reduce flood risk, (b) maintain farmland, and (c) reduce urban sprawl 3. That the G.V.R.D. seek however to 3. improve flood risk legislation and programs which will take account of situations not covered by present policies or programs, such as: (4) providing floodproofing regulations, (i) Endorsed improved dyking or other protection for existing designated URBAN and INDUSTRIAL AREAS of the Official Regional Pian which are presently exempt from the flocdproofing policy. 2/2
