The group made its own way back. on Oct. 1 from Victoria i in order to catch the flight back up north. Hawkair’s Jocelyn Lindenbach said the decision to help out with transportation was an’easy one to make. ~ “Otherwise they. would have faced a long journey,” she . said of inntial plans to take the group down by ferry. Linden-, bach said a Hartley Bay resident she contacted to set up the trip was “shocked” when told of the Hawkair offer. “Actually, she was speechless,” said Lindenbach.: The Queen of the North sank in early March in waters near Hartley Bay. Residents responded to radio calls for help, taking 99 people to their village. Two people are still miss- ing and are presumed to have gone down with the ferry. At first the Hartley Bay group was expected to pay for its own transportation, food and lodging in order to attend the dinner in their honour at Government House in Victoria. But that changed when the province said it would pick up the accommodation and food and B.C. Ferries some of the transportation. _ And that’s when Hawkair stepped in with its fight offer.
