THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM Pi OCT 27 1986 MEMORANDUM TO: City Administrator ; October 23, 1986 FROM: City Engineer SUBJECT: Canus Container Systems ~ Public Works Committee October 21, 1986 Recommendation: That Canus Container Corporation be authorized to conduct a one month free trial of the Canus Garbage Container System throughout the City's Garbage Zone 4 in accordance with the conditions set out In the draft agreement attached and with the following additional conditions: 1. That Canus Container Corporation put up a Letter of Credit in the amount of $2,000.00 to guarantee performance under the agreement. - That a provision be made In the agreement for extension of the trial period for « maximum of two weeks In the event that weather does not allow adequate testing during the designated one month triak period. ; That the City has until} January 30, 1987 plus the amount of any extension tn which to make a decision on whether the use of containers should be accepted for the whole City. That the Canus Container Corporation agree to no back charging of the residents for the period between the end of the free trial period and the date of Counc! I's final decision if Counc!l! ultimately decides to not participate in the system. Background and Comments: Material on the Canus Container System has been included with Publ ic Works Committee minutes which have been recelved by members of Council. A Sample of the plastic container which would be used Is avallable for examination In the Council! Room behind the Counct! Chambers. Essentially, the proposal of the Canus Contaltner Corporation ts to provide containers to everybody who wishes one within the trial area for a perlod of one month and to mount the appropriate hydraulte lifting equipment onto the City's garbage collection vehicles so that a test of their use can be done.
