THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF FORT COQUITLAM -3- cannot be adjusted to vary the signal timing, sequence or cycle lengths without elaborate changes to gears and cams in the controller. The signals also operate on electrical power supplied by a standby generator and are connected to controller by cable which only reaches a few hundred feet in length. ° Quotations were requested for alternate types of signals. Only one was received from Continental Explosives for a portable radio operated battery powered pair of traffic signals. This system does not use cables or depend on a generator and can be used over a distance of 1,000 meters between signals. It is also adjustable for many different combinations of green, amber and red clearance time. The price for the above system is $3,025.00 plus taxes. The Committee recowmends that the system be purchased from Continental Explo- sives with funds to be provided from the unallocated funds in the public works budget. ITEM Iv Re: Bus Loop on Inverress The Committee considered the attached letter, from B.C. Hydro _ regarding a change to the bus route in the area of Chelsea and Inverness Street. Shortly after the reconstructed road on Cedar Drive was opened, two B.C. Hydro buses slipped off the road into the corner lot at Cedar Drive and Inverness while attempting to turn the sharp corner onto Cedar. Although our landscaping work has reduced the slope at the corner, it should not be expected to support buses and therefore the buses would continue to have a problem. The proposed new route is the same as the route used by the buses during the Cedar Drive construction period and Inverness Street is in about the same condition on either side of Chelsea Avenue. Essex has been recently reconstructed ‘as part of the loc: ' improvement project. The Committee recommends that the revision to the bus route be approved in accordance with the request from B.C. Hydro. ITEM V Re: Cost-Sharing of Street Lights on Mary Hill By-Pass According to the usual formula for street light installation on provincial highways, the City is responsible for a portion of the costs associated with intersection lighting where a City street crosses a pro- vincial highway. We have a letter from the Ministry of Highways providing an estimate of the cost of the City's share of lighting on this project in the amount of $9,924.00. The Ministry of Highways share of the same lighting amounts to $71,076.00. . l4veee Ab Rapegebdind mera ati
