- THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM C ยข Uj N C MENORANDINE JUL 9 1979 TO: Mayor and Council June 29th, 1979 FROM: Public Works Committee Report from the Public Works Committee Meeting held Wednesday, June 27th, 1979. IN ATTENDANCE: Alderman P.F. Ranger Alderman J.J. Keryluk F.E. Peters, P. Eng., City Engineer Delegation - George Aldcroft ITEM I Re: Larchway Traffic Speeding George Aldcroft of 3040 Larchway was present concerning speecing of vehicles on Larchway. Mr. Aldcroft mentioned that the residents of the street had asked him to act as spokesman and to try to get the City to do something about the speeding of traffic on Larchway and the hazard that this causes to children walking to and from the school and playing in the street. The residents had initially wanted speed bumps but were prepared to accept a playground zone which would allow the police to better enforce the speed. : The Committee considered the fact that there are no sidewalks on Larchway even though it is the main approach to the school for a lot of children. It also serves as access to a playground. The Committee recommends that the present school zone on Fraser Street be removed and a playground zone be installed on Larchway from Tamarach to Fraser and on Fraser from the entrance to Meridian Gardens to Kilmer Street. ITEM IT Re: Access to Lacrosse Box at Pearkes School The problem of vandalism in the lacrosse box had been discussed by Council and referred to the Committee. The Committee recommends that the log which blocks off Ulster Street just north of the lacrosse box be moved and relocated to a point about 200 feet south of its present position and that some rough grading be done on the portion of Ulster Street in the vicinity of the lacrosse box. This would allow the R.C.M.P. to drive their vehicles directly up to the lacrosse box and will make it easier for them to check the vandalism.
