The RCMP can be reached at 638-7400, Walk safe TERRACE RCMP want young women to be careful when walking alone, after recciving reports that six to 12 women were fol- - lowed by an unknown man in the last 10 weeks. All of the women, in their late teens and early twentics, thought the inci- dents were suspicious and calied police. The women have de- scribed different men in different vehicles and no one was injured in the re- ported incidents. The complaints are not confined to one area of the city, said Terrace RCMP Cnst. Liz Douglas. She advised women to be careful and observant. “Don’t walk alone,” she said. “If you do, call people and let them know you’re coming, take a cab or have someone pick you up.” She also said it’s safer to walk down lit, well-tra- velled streets, and if tailed downtown, walk to the RCMP detachment. , “As always, get as ‘good a description of the vehi- cle and licence plate num- ber as you can, Douglas said. School robbed RCMP are looking for your help in the March 3 break and enter at Thornhill Ju- nior Secondary School, Sometime after 11 p.m. March 3 and 9 a.m. March 4 thieves broke a window in the front door. Although the school’s alarm bell sounded, they went to the school’s main office, pried open a filing cabinet and stole two cash boxes, containing less than $150, By the time the security system alerted RCMP the thieves were gone. “They were in and out in less than four minutes,” said school principal Fred . Woods. The boxes were found behind the Thornhill ani- mal shelter, a short dis- tance away from the school. Woods is asking anyone who saw a two-tone later model hatchback in the school’s parking lot after 11 p.m. that Friday night to call the RCMP. The stolen money was to be used to help leader- ship program students or- ganize community events. RCMP believe the thieves had personal knowledge of the school and are asking anyone with information on this crime to cail Crime Stop- pers at 635-TIPS (8477). All calls are confidential. After 17 days in Jack- son Memorial Hospital in Miami, where dactors fused and pinned vertebrae in her neck, Ahrens re- quested that she be moved back to B.C. for rehabilita- tion. “Now she’s in an area where. people can come see her,” said Ahrens’ bro- ther Chris Chicgine, - of Terrace.. He explained that Ah- rens has regained some sensation in her lower back and legs. “But we don’t know if it’s feeling or sensation,” he said. “There's definitely some hope [that she will feel her legs again.]” Chicoine said his sister also has good use of her left arm down to her wrist, but her right shoulder re- mains broken, “Right now she has fecling but no movement in her hands,” he added, Chicoine thanked the community: for the support shown for his sister and brother-in-law. “The generosity from people: has been over- whelming,” he said. Although the newly- weds had traveller’s insur- ance, which covered their medical bills, the money will go towards Alexis’ re- habilitation treatment, some of which can’t be re- covered by medical insur- ance. Donations will also go towards Rolf’s living Alexis Ahrens expenses in Vancouver while Alexis remains in the hospital.
