The group of 45 people left the Happy Gang Centre at 8:30 am. on a Farwest bus and started on a beautiful day- outing. From Terrace we travelled up the Kalum Lake Rd past Lost Lake. Walter McConnell told of his family coming out to the lake by horse and wagon to pick berries: Then we drove through the quict little village of Rosswood. As we drove further along, we all sat back and relaxed, enjoying _— the scenery such as the freshly made beaver houses at Sand Lake. Mes. Seaton, who was sit- fing beside me, spotted some ducks feeding in a water pond. Even the water was a deep mogs green in colour and because of the rain we had everything looked very healthy. As we all were chatting and : ’ looking out from the windows, we viewed the beautiful, colourful: meadows of wild- - flowers - buttercups, wild . roses, fireweed, goat's beard, Indian paintbrushes, Iluysin, _ honeysuckle, yarrow, pearly _ everlasting. The gravel road was even dust free. Then we stopped at the Lava Lake picnic site for our mom- ing coffee break. Gert and others had prepared juice and some deli- cious cookies for everyone. Driving on, we had a view of the beautiful Vetter Falis. Then our tour guide pointed out the 'H’-tree about 15 feet up - two large cottonwood trees joined to make a perfect ‘HI’. We drove on through the lava beds and stopped for a while to walk around. Then we drove on to Canyon City, We all, got off the bus and the ‘spindly - pedestrian suspension bridge - I must say it was quite an ex- perience. In Canyon City we were cheerfully greeted by our tour guide Alice Gilis. ‘We spent a most interesting hour there learning of its his- tory. We had a most delicious lunch ending with a chocolate - eclair and were entertained by Bill Young with some good old tunes on the keyboard, Everyone had a nice visit with Bill, Then we ail loaded on ihe bus to continue on our journey to Kitwanga and then staried on our way back home. On our way home, we en- ~ joyed more fantastic scenery as we drove by Kleanza Park. As I looked up the mountain I realized why God had creat- ed the beautiful Skeena Val- ley. ‘After he had taken a final look around at his wonderful creation, he marked a big OK on the OK mountain side.
