The two Terrace youngsters recently returned from a five week stay in Europe including four weeks at the Leys Summer School in Cambridge, England. The tour and school sessions were arranged by the American Institute for foreign Study, an organization that offers Canadian and American students the opportunit study European countries first- hand. burden is borne by the students but through the Institute the cost is low, less than $2,000 lakes care of transportation meals and lodging for the full . stay. Students are responsible for their own spending monies as well as getting to New York. Lauren and Hon left Terrace on the tenth of July for New York, catching the flight to London on the twelvth. The group of students spent three days sight-seeing in the British capital before leaving for the Leys Summer Schoo) in Cambridge. The summer school featured four week courses in English Literature and Modern Britian as well as many special interes! elasses that lasted for two weeks each. The students were required to take the Lilerature and England classes and were obligated to choose two of the special courses offered, The Modern Britain course dealt with the present situation in England from sociological, economic and political view- points as well as Britians’s role in the international scene. The electives featured courses in painting, music, architect and the history of Cambridge University itself. Lauren busied herself with The main financial . studies of English Architecture, while Ron availed himself to the history courses involved. The school also featured lectures by distinguished visitors and several forums such as the ‘Role of Women in Great Britian Today’... Ex- cursions to various locations were held, giving the students a - chance to see many English sites with names like Norwich Ely, ‘Saffron Walden, Audley End and Woburn Abbey, A special three day period was “taken up by a visit to Stratford and the Memorial Theatre for a production of Shakespeare’s Julius Caeser, —- Following the summer school the students left England from Dover by ferry for a three day | stay in Paris. After the three days of exciting site seeing the students were bussed to Mon- treaux in Switzerland for an visit Europe over-night .stay, then on lo Geneava for a full day. .
