LOCAL 1-80 JOINT SAFETY | A highly successful Joint Safety Seminar was held in Local 1-80’s Headquarters in Duncan, May 5, with nearly one hundred people in atten- dance. The format of the Seminar was drawn up by the officers of the Local Union, management of the major forest companies in the area, and by the Work- men’s Compensation Board. The participating companies agreed to pay the wages of employees attending and the Local Union provided lunch and the use of the hail. The Seminar was under the direction of Jack Mumm, Local 2nd Vice-President and Bob MacDonald, Local 3rd Vice-President. -CONFERENCE Keynote speaker was Mr. J. D. Paton, Director of the Acci- dent Prevention Department of the Workmen’s Compensation Board, who spoke on the role pieyes by the WCB throughout Following his address vari- ous’ speakers from manage- ment and the union safety committees reported on the measures taken in their opera- tions to reduce accidents. Addresses were also given by WCB Inspectors Mike Severen and John Maxwell who were questioned at length at the conclusion of their talks by the audience. The general concerisus was _ that the conference had been well worth while and more of them should be held.
