DESIGN OF REGULATORY SIGNS With few exceptions, Regulatory Signs shall be designed in accordance with the genera! specifications set forth in Sections Al.05, AI.06, Al.07, A!.08, AI.09, Ai.10, AL.I1 and Al.14. With the exception of a few special signs such as the Stop Sign, the Yield Sign, and the One-Way Sign, all Regulatory Signs are rectangular in shape with the longer dimension vertical and they are comprised of either red. green or black message content on a white background. In certain cases a reverse screening process is specified (white legend on black background) in order to increase effectiveness. Such cases include the Night Speed Sign and the Overhead Lane Designation Signs. Minimum dimensions are presented in the following sections for each sign, Where conditions require increased visibility or where the required message cannot be ade- quately accommodated ona smaller area, larger signs may be used. All dimensions shall be increased proportionately. LOCATION OF REGULATORY SIGNS Regulatory Signs shall be located in accordance with Section Al.15, Section Al.16, and A1.17. Additional location requirements for certain Regulatory Signs are set forth in the section dealing with the particular sign where applicable. RIGHT-OF-WAY CONTROL Right-Of-Way Control Signs as contained in this section shall indicate the right-of-way of vehicle drivers and/or pedestrians as appropriate. They shall be erected in accordance with the general specifications for regulatory signs (Sections Al.15, Al.16, and Al.17). Stop Sign (RA-1) The Stop Sign shail indicate to drivers that they shall stop their vehicles completely, before entering the intersection area, and shall not proceed until it is safe to do so. The Stop Sign shali be octagonal in shape with a minimum horizontal/ vertical dimension of 60 cm. The minimum height of the symbol shall be 1/3 of the height of the sign. ° Oversized Stop Signs may be used, where the physical characteristics, collision experience or traffic speeds, indicate that a 60 cm sign will not have sufficient impact (Sec. Al.08). Reduced-size Stop Signs may be used on separate bicycle facilities to regulate the movement of bicyclists. In this case the minimum dimensions shall be 45 cm. Care should be taken to ensure that signs are place so that they are not readily visible to motorists. Standard size signs shall be used to control bicylists on shared facilities. RA-1 Ata multi-way stop intersection (three or more approaches 60 x 60 cm that are controlled by Stop Signs) a supplementary tab sign (RA-IT) shall be used with the sign to indicate the number of approaches controlled by Stop Signs (Sec.
