DATE: 1987 01 21 YOUR FILE; OUR FILE: 09 03 08 1,01 in 1986 a request for a street light, adjacent Hastings Schoo!, was submitted by Coqultiam School District to the Traffic Advisory Conmittee. 1.02 Hastings School Iles within Coquitlam. Road access comes from Hastings Street In Port Coquitiam, The school servas both municipalities, 2000 DISCUSSION 2.01 The request to provide a street light just north of the Intermunicipal boundary (in Coquitiam) has been frustrated by flack of power supply. All straet light circuits terminate In Port Coquitiam at the Intersection of Hastings and McRae Crascent, To provide power supply to the street next to the school Involves the Installation of two additional pelas and conductors jn Port Coquitiam, Added to this cost is the physical Installation of 4 third pole on the street al lowanca in Coquitiam, to support a teased light. 2002 City of Port Coquitiam staff Indicated In 1986 May that they were not willing to recommend to Port Coquitlam Council, cast sharing of this tnstal lation (estimated at a total cost between $5,000 and $6,000), This maans that to provide a single light at the entrance to Hastings School, It wousd be necessary for Coquitiam to pay the entire cost. 2.05 An additlonal security {fight at the school has been Instaifed but has not Ittuminated the required area at the access to the school. A second Investigation by Coquitlam on tapping power from a nearby pumping station has been ruled out because of voltage differences and cost, Consequently, the only avallable method of providing lighting, Independent of School Board or Port Coquitiam participation, would Involve a vary large expense bourne by Cogultiam alone, ' 2.06 There !s no current budget allocation for extending street Iighting to Hastings School, 3.00 CONCLUSIONS 3.01 The very large expenditure needed fran Coquittam to extend a single light adjacent School Board property at Hastings School argues that the project should not be considered without cost sharing from the School Board and the City of Port Coqultiam, YUE Nell Nyberg, F.
