March 19th, 1979. His Worship Mavor J.M. Campbell introduced the 5th Hyde Creek Company of Girl Guides from Leigh Elementary School and welcomed them to the Council meeting. DELEGATIONS: The City Administrator advised an application for a business licence had been received from Mrs. Louise Conarroe, 1482 Columbia Avenue, regarding setting up a ceramic business at 2579 Lougheed Highway. The City Administrator stated the application for business licence required Council approval as this was not a stated use under the CS-1 zone. Mrs. Conarroe was present. ‘Alderman Traboulay asked Mrs. Conarroe for clarification on the type of business she would be setting up and Mrs. Conarroe replied it would be the painting, glazing and firing of greenware. Alderman Laking spoke in favour of the application and stated in his opinion it would fit in with the surrounding businesses. Alderman Wright also spoke in favour of the resolution as it seemed to comply with the type of business in the area. Moved by Alderman Ranger: Seconded by Alderman Laking: That the application for a business licence by Mrs. Louise Conarroe, 1482 Columbia Avenue, to operate a ceramic business at 2579 Lougheed Highway, be approved. Carried. BY-LAWS: Moved by Alderman Traboulay: Seconded by Alderman Ranger: That By-law No. 1532 be reconsidered, finally passed and adopted, Carried. Aldermen Keryluk and Wright voted against the resolution. Prior to passage of the foregoing resolution Alderman Ranger asked for clarification of the type of building that was proposed to be built and stated that the property had a 'For Sale or Lease! sign posted on it and that if the property was sold the development could be changed. The City Planner stated the building permit had been partially prepared and felt the developer would g0 ahead. Discussion then ensued and the following motion was proposed.
