Rail ~ PoCo yards. No doubt all through the years there has been the storing and transporting of these highly dangerous materials, due to our location and the large yards the C.P.R. has in the central core area of Port Coquitlam. We have no doubt been remiss in not realizing the dangers of this situation, and very fortunate that there have been no serious explosions or fires. However, we are very cognizant of the fact that in the shunting and humping of rail cars in PoCo, we have had problems. If one was to peruse the Council minute files over the past years, they would see ‘the numerous times we have complained and also met with the authorities in charge, about the banging of rail cars particularly during the night. “This is where my main concern is, in the careless handling of these highly explosive rail. cars. It is this Council's responsibility to de everything possible to’ assure our citizens a safe place to live, and we must have a lot greater assurances from C.P. Rail before allowing additional storage of these dangerous materials in Port Coquitlam. Respectfully submitted, E.W. Mabbett, Alderman.
