Re: Drainage Problem at 2855 Coast Meridian Road.

Mrs. Jackson, who lives at the above address, has
a drainage problem because her lot is lower than the surrounding
road or lane. She claims to have been promised a connection to
a storm sewer which was to be extended to her property along
the lane by the developer to the south. When the development
did go ahead, no provision was made for her drainage, and indeed,
there is no reason that the developer should have been required
to extend the storm sewer as far as her property.

The Assistant Engineer reported that a storm sewer on
Coast Meridian Road is too shallow: in order to allow her to drain
her crawl space but that it would be possible for her to drain
the back of her lot into the storm sewer with a very shallow

drain.

‘Although we have no legal obligation to solve Mrs.
Jackson's private drainage problem, it was felt by the Committee
that because of an apparent previous promise, it would be in oxvder
to offer to bring a connection from the storm sewer on Coast
Meridian to her property line if she wishes to drain her back
yard. Cost cf a connection would be around $200 to $300. °

Re: Traffic Improvements for Leigh Square

e

The Committee considered a letter from Dr. Sinclair
of the Leigh Square Medical Centre which had been sent to the
Mayor and Council. This letter pointed out that their previous
requests for speed bumps or some other form of traffic control
in the lane next to the Medical Centre had not been acted on
and that they urged the installation of speed bumps.

The Committee is strongly against the use of speed
bumps on City streets for the following reasons:

1. They place a strong liability on the City in the
event of an accident which could be traced to the speed bumps.

2. Firemen riding the tailgates of a fire truck can
be thrown high into the air on passing over a speed bump.

3.. There is a danger that if cyclists hit the speed
bumps in a certain way they can be thrown off their vehicle
into the path of an oncoming car.
