Engineer, Honaid ..1ison 3O3L, Westwood Ste Fort Coqgnitlam, B.C, June 16, 1977, Port Coquitlam City Council, Port Coquitlam, B.C. Dear Sirs: This letter is in regard to the traffic situation in the area of Westwood Street and Kingsway. The first problem I wish to bring to your attenticn is that this city street which was formerly an arterial highway is still being used as an srterial highway. There is a ccnstant Stream of large trucks and other traffic using this street to by- pass the larger number of traffic lights on the new by-pass route. At least 80% of this traffic has no destinaticn in the City of Port Coquitlam and therefore should be denied the use of this road. Wany cities, including our own, hav py-laws which reg- ulate truck and traffie reuting. I think a sign on the Fort Co- quitlam exit which states ‘local traffic only would be appropriate, A few fines in this area wer ld Stop most of the continuous offend= ers in a very short time. It is my understanding that the rail crossing ca West- wood Street was left open for local traffic and to help the local business on this street only. Transient traffic does nothing but hamper their business during the course of a business day. Also, “a large number of people, including vycelf, earn their livelihood - in the trucking business, and a local traffic ruling would not in- terfere with these people, >. .
