November 8th, 1976 probably be some delay in proceeding as the Department of Highways indicated it has been looking at a connector from Como Lake Road into Port Coquitlam and the right-of-way therefore conflicts with the proposed development. The Committee, in its report, further stated Mr. Buchanan had advised that the District of Coquitlam Council had not yet dealt with the latest proposals of the G.V.R.D. Planning Committee for the Regional Town Centre's location; however, he would inform the District's Planning Committee of the City's coneerns in that regard, A discussion then ensued, and Alderman Laking stated that while he was no longer concerned about the type of industry proposed to be located on Bedford Street in the District of Coquitlam, he was still concerned about the influence the location of the Regional Town Centre will have on that area. Alderman Traboulay referred to a letter from the Department of Highways, October 27th, 1976, to the District of Coquitlam, regarding a proposed route from either Wilson or Kelly Avenue in Port Coquitlam to the Lougheed Highway-Como Lake Road intersection via a railway overpass, and Alderman Laking agreed with his stated concern as to the effect of this route on the City's downtown area, and to his suggestion that the proposal shovld be further discussed with the Department of Highways. Alderman Ranger, in commenting on reference made to the Marathon project and proposed truck/rail terminal in the last paragraph of the letter from the Department of Highways above-mentioned, stated he felt the Provincial Government should be pressured to provide a new Red Bridge crossing over both the Coquitlam River and the railway tracks, and Alderman Mabbett advised the subject will be discussed at the November 23rd, 1976 meeting with the District of Coquitlam.
