: SKEENA Bulkley- -Valley NDP MP Nathan Cullen expects
. to bolster his Prince Rupert presence thanks to a shuffle of
his office staff here and in Smithers.
His plan is to place a .3 staffer in the coastal city now
that changes have been made to his existing staff levels.
“* Cullen has enough money to fill the equivalent of
“three full-time positions and originally divided that into
‘four three-quarter time employees, two here and two in’
‘Smithers, when first elected last year.
_ ‘In Terrace he hired Francoise Godet and Dylan Freethy
. and in Smithers, Matt Pearson and Shelley Brown. .
‘But Freethy hasn’t worked for Cullen since May of this ~
year: Cullen says he’s contractually bound not to talk about —
Freethy’s departure.
“Tt was kind of an internal thing,” Cullen says. “We have ,
an agreement that we signed not to really talk about it.”
Freethy’s departure provided an opportunity to re-arrange
the Terrace office which resulted in Godet being boosted to a
full. time employee...

All that leaves Cullen with enough money to hire a .3
staffer and he wants to have that happen in Prince Rupert.
He will also do in Prince Rupert what he does in Ter- —
race, share office space with an MLA. In Terrace, that means
splitting rent and utilities with Skeena NDP MLA Robin
Austin and in Prince Rupert, the plan is to the same with
North Coast NDP MLA Gary Coons.
° “Tf I can save money and provide better coverage and ser-
vice then why not?” says Cullen.
Having a representative in Prince Rupert should provide
f easier access for those constituents in coastal communities
and on the Queen Charlotte Islands, he added.
Cullen’s Skeena-Bulkley federa riding is one of the larg-
“est in the country, making it difficult tor cover. ~
