Algerian woman, suspected of
being kidnapped, won’t leave

ALGIERS (Reuter) —
Algerian woman said tohave
been kidnapped from
Canada does not wish to
return there to give evidence
in any police investigation,
official Canadian sources
said here today.

The sources said Dalila
Maschino had told the police
of her decision, through the
Canadian Embassy in
Algiers.

Canadian charge d'affaires
in Algiers, Franco Pilarella,
alone for several minutes on
July 21.

the diplomat's apartment in
the centre of Algiers, Asked

Maschino told him she “did
not wish to go to Canada nor
anywhere else,”

Her husband, Denis Mas-
chino, says his wife was ab-
ducted and taken to Algeria
against her will by members

of her family, which had
never approved her
marriage to a nonMoslem.

Maschino has accused
Rachid Zegghar, the head of
the family, of master-
minding the kidnapping.
Zegghar is an Algiers
businessman whose huge

personal fortune gives him
considerable political in-
fluence.

STUDIED AT UNIVERSITY
The affair has caused a
storm in Canada. The
Quebec government, where
the Maschinos were studying
at the University of Mon-
bas started an in-
ventigation into the case,
The affair has also been
referred to publicly by
Prime Minister Pierre
Trudeau, Georges Blouin,
Canada’s Under-Secretary
of State for External Affairs,
was recently in Algiers to
discuss the matter with
Algerian authorities.
They told him they con-
sidered it a private matter
but said they would not stop

the country must obtain an
exit visa.

The Algerian authorities
also told Canadian officiais

Man sues cousin for
bone transfusion

PITTSBURGH (AP) —
The cousin of a dying man
whose diseased bone
marrow will mot produce
blood cells cannot he
required to submit to a
transplant, a judge ruled

today.

“This would defeat the
sanctity of the individual,”
said County Judge Jobn
Flaherty.

“It would require forcible
submission to the medical
procedure,” he said, adding

that “forcible extraction of
bodily . tissues causes
revulsion to the judicial
mind,”*

Robert McFall, 30, a
former asbestos worker,
filled suit to compel his
cousin, David Shimp, 43, a
rane operator, to donate the
marrow if further tests
reaffirm the two men are
biologically compatible.

Flaherty said he had no
other option in the
