City Engineer SUBJECT: COST SHARING - KINGSWAY AVENUE RAILWAY CROSSING (Public Works Committee Meeting of December 22, 1992) RECOMMENDATION: That the City of Port Coquitlam accept 12.5% of the cost of installation and 50% of the cost of “yture maintenance of the railway crossing waming system at Mile 0.37 of the Westminster subdivision and Kingsway Avenue in Port Coquitlam as described in the letter from CP Rail Legal Services to Transport Canada dated December 2, 1992. BACKGROUND 1) Plan 1 - showing the location of the Kingsway railway crossing, Mile 0.37 of the Westminster subdivision. 2) Letter from C. Wendlandt, General Solicitor, Canadian Pacific Legal Services dated December 2, 1992. COMMENTS: It is proposed to reconstruct Kingsway from Westwood to the Coquitlam River bridge in 1993 at an estimated cost of $1,072,624. CP Rail on November 29, 1991 submitted an application on behalf of CP Rail and the City to Transport Canada for a grant of 80% of the capital cost for the railway crossing waming signal improvement. The remaining 20% cost be allocated 12.5% to the City of Port Coquitlam and 7.5% to CP Rail. Based on an estimated capital cost for the railway crossing of $223,600, the City’s share would be $27,950. The maintenance costs for this new railway crossing would be shared equally by CP Rail and the City. The annual maintenance cost is estimated to be $7,000. CZ" ph LR. Zaynikee.
