In Attendance: Alderman M.A. Thompson Alderman J.J. Keryluk Mrs. J. Pleasants, The Enterprise V.G. Borch, P. Eng. Respectfully Submitted. Res Langan Avenue Closure At the March 18th, 1974 Council meeting the Public Works Committee was directed to re~study the matter of the Langan Avenue Closure just wast of Broadway and this has been done at three subsequent Public Works Committee meetings. On November 2nd, 1973 traffic counts were taken on Langan just east of Broadway. In an eleven hour period from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. 128 vehicles and 10 trucks were observed going westbound and 127 vehicles and 12 trucks were observed going eastbound. The Public Works Committee Report of December 7th, 1973 is attached hereto for infermation. Following consideration of the Public Works Committee Report, the Council decided to close Langan Avenue just west of Broadway. At the March 18th, 1974 Council meetingthe Council considered directing the City Engineer to proceed with the closure as previously decided or to reconsider the matter. The latter course of action was taken. The Public Works Committee recommends that Langan Avenue not be closed for the following reasons. 1. This is a public road allowance basically for the use of all of the public. ; Z. The present traffic volumes are quite low and it is therefore difficult to see how these low traffic volumes could present a problem. 3. The principle of closing a road in order to divert traffic else- where ig questionable in itself and could set an undesirable precedent that would be difficult to handle should further requests for this kind of closure be received.
