of that information was provided by GVRD. In addition to the .
Chamber of Commerce project the Port Coquitlam Planning.
Department made three other large data requests totalling 7 1/2.
hours of computer and staff time this year.

During 1987 work by the GVYRD In the area of data
management will be to analyse and disseminate Information from
the new census. Changes to the GVRD computer system are
proposed to permit direct access by telephone to thelr census
and tand use files from our City Halt!. This will bea major
improvement.

b. Transportation

Transportation planning service provided by GVRD has been
oriented towards IncreastIng sophistication of tratfiec computer
models. Over the past years GVRD has assembled a very powerful
system which is now ready to use. The District of Coquitiam
engineering Department volunteered to include Port Coquitiam In
thelr work. Under the data base and demographics work
programme, GVRD staff have updated Port Coquitlam records for

the computer model.

Computer runs of Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam are scheduled to
be run this winter and spring. This Information wiil be of
assistance to the Engineering Department testing Capital
Improvement Plan road construction timing as well as designing
and scheduling ongoing road Improvements.

Ceo Development Strategy

This is the core area of work by GVRD. In the reorientation of
services to work towards a specific set of goals, focus of this
area has been tightened from a sertes Independent programmes
(ege economic development and fong range planning) to an

integrated package.

It is this report's opinion that the proposed Integration and
emphasi« on development strategy is to the City's benefit.
While the experimental approach followed last year was good for
exploring alternatives, a more production orlented approach Is

in order this year.
