| Regional plan signed to draw movie makers WHEN movie moguls think about filming in northwestern B.C, the Prince George Film Com- mission is now officially their first stop. Terrace, Kitimat, Prince Rupert and the Ki- timat-Stikine regional dis- trict last week signed an agreement with the com- mission to make it the prime marketing gateway for locations in this area. ° Towns in this area tic into it through local con- tacts and extensive books of information and local location photos. Under the agreement, this region contributes a total of $10,000 to the Prince George Film Com- mission, with a $2,500 Terrace share of that com- ing from the Terrace Eco- nomic Development Au- thority. It's well worthwhile, said authority executive director Ken Veldman, be- cause it allows Terrace and the region to tap into the expertise the Prince George commission has developed over the past three years. “It allows us to go from basically standing still ta full speed in a matter of months when otherwise it would have taken us years,” he said. Prince George Film Commission. director Sara Shaak said the film indu- siry wants to go through one central contact point for the north, but the com- mission needed to be able to affer locations that Prince George alone didn’t SAVE $300.00 on Fridge SAVE $400.00 on Ranga with 2 ovens - : _SAVE.$150,00-an Washer-Supar-Capacity . - -§ - SAVE $100.00 on Dryer Dependable Care SAVE $100.00 on Dishwasher FREEZERS all sizes on sale 100% Top Grain Leather SOFA AND LOVE SEAT have. The arrangement has already been going on in- formally for several months and works well, says Veldman. The Prince George commission refers to the Terrace authority requests for locations that could fit this area. The local office has put Terrace area location photo files into the hands of location decision ma- kers for around 15 to 20 lo- cations in that time. “We've ended up on short lists for several of them either directly in Terrace or in the general region,” Veldman added, “We remain on several short lists at the moment where either a decision not yet been made or a project _TERRACE STANDARD | BUSINESS REVIEW The Terrace Standard, Wednesday, August 2, 2000 - A? The model being used to market northwest B.C. is innovative enough that it’s gotten mention in Holly- wood trade mapazines and Veldman and Shaak are being asked to give pre- sentations in other regions of B.C. “As simple as il is it's abviously something that isn’t being done regular- ly,” he said.
