M. The Choir is directed by Miss Olga Johnson with Miss Cynthia Tilson as the organist. The can-tata calls for several solos by Tenor and Bass. Tenor soloist will be Holger Blomquist, with Pastor Olson singing the bass solos. A few dramatic parts for ba^s voice will be sung by George Gessell. And in two of the hymns, which are beautifully intermingled throughout the work, Miss Alma Wicklund and Mrs. Albert Johnson will be heard in solo parts. The whole work is fitting for the beginning of Holy Week as it is based upon the Sacred scriptures with the actual words of scripture dealing with Christ’s suffering and death for the sins of the World. Light refreshments will be served following the concert. • • * ANDREW CLUNAS HEADS LUTHER LEAGUES At a recent meeting of the Luther League Association comprisisg the joint young peo-ple’s group of all the Lutheran churches in the Greater Vancouver area, Andrew Clunas, Vice President of the Luther League at Augustana Lutheran Church was djected president of the Luther League association. Cor-poral Wylie who was just 20 tried to communicate from Tokyo with his 17 year old bride of a year, Joanne Mc Crea Wylie of 3966 W. 31st Ave., before going in to the figthing, but could not reach her. The stater ment was made that he knew why he was fighting and one of his last statements to his wife was “God be with you.” The death of Corporal Wylie Helena, Montana March 2/51. Dear Mr. Manson. We were very pleased to re-ceive from you the copy of the Province which contained the news on the Augustana Lutheran Church. It is a joy for us who once served in your midst to read and hear of the pro-gress made. And what a joy it must be to those, who under ■difficult and trying circumstan-ces, kept faith with their God and were true to the best in their heritage from the home-land. I realize, of course, that some of those have already been called to their eternal home and are no longer among you; but we honor their memory. I was privileged to meet your new pastor at the Conference Convention last spring. May the Lord bless him and you of the congregation as you labor together in doing what our bles-sed Savior layis upon the hearts of his children. And now, a personal favor Mr. Manson. As you probably knolw, the annlual Convention of the Columbia Conference will this year be held in our church in Helena. The date is april 3-6. It would warm our hearts to have many, many of our friends in Vancouver and New Westminster come and share the inspiration of this Convention with us. If I had time I would like to sit down and write them each a personal invitation,. But since time does not permit me To do that, would you be so kind as to insert an invitation from us in the Swedish Press. I believe they would enjoy a visit to Helena, the Queen City in the land of the shining mountains. I believe they would enjoy seeing our new church, the product Of so much love, labor and sacrifice. We on our part would enjoy to clasp again their hand of warm fellowship. Sincerely, Nels Norbeck • • • ACKNOWLEDGEMENT 831 West 20th Avenue Vancouver, British Columbia The Swedish Press, Mr. M. Lekstugan Visits Haney On Friday, March 2nd, the Swedish Folk Dance Club jourr neyed to Haney with the Canar dian Fölk Society to entertain at a concert that was sponsored by their local P. T. A. As the two bus loads of en-tertainers arrived at the spacir ous Maple Ridge Highschool they found the auditorium packed with parents and students who had come to see what the groups from Vancouver had to offer. Opening the program, the High school principal welcomed the dancers. then Mrs. Guthrie, Fölk Society organizer took o-ver as M. C. Her whole life is centered around this work and her eyes gleamed with en-thusiasm as she told the audi-ence a little of the background of the Society. The very populär Ukranian Daiué Team opened the program and was followed by some very charming Scottish lassies. The Danish Dance Team followed them and I hope that they will be presented amongst the Scandinavian concerts this sumr mer as they were graceful. Then came the dancers from Greece, the men with their flowing white skirts and the beautiful women with their sparkling costumes. Mrs. Black sang two songs, then a recording of a Bavarian song was played. Mrs. Guthrie stressed the fact that a group of thirty Bavarians on a goodwill tour of North America will be presented at the Den-man Auditorium in April and she urged all who could to at-tend this display of dances and songs. The charming girls dressed in the green of Ireland then apr peared and after them Mrs. Guthrie’s son sang three songs in his rich baritone voice. Now the Swedish Folk Dance Club came on the stage and did three numbers, one of them the co-mical “Oxe Dance” which had the audience laughing gaily. Ronny Paj ala their capable musician played two numbers on his accordion which also was well received. Ellen Harris, well known C. B. R. commentator then spoke a few words and the entire east of entertainers was brought back for the finale. This was done by the singing of “One World” by Mr. Guthrie and I felt that it expresed the hopes of all of us that some time in the near futiire all the various nationalities can forget their differences and live together-peacefully. After the program, a libera’. lunch was served which was welcomed by us all. Then later, as we bade farewell to our new-' ly made friends in Haney and headed back to Vancouver, we hoped that we had done a littlei to bring the populace of this». thriving town an insight of the songs, dances and customs of other lands.
