He could have done better except he had lost some fingers In a gun bat-tle and consequently had to play with only five fingers on ench hand. Next on the lively program were the Trail Mates, a real good male quartet con-sidering they iiad only five members. The boys sang two numbers “There’s a Gold Mine in the Sky” and “Standin’ in the Need of Prayer”. A great clanging from the torman’s cowbell announeed that the Sage Brusher was going to speak. Fearless Fred, presenting quite a sight in his old buckskin jacket, beat up Stetson, and his yellow wig spoke of the days when he was a youngun’. The old timer told of the time he was in Sweden and had planted some corn. A little fellow had climbed the corn stalk wihen it started to grow something fierce. Fearless Fred tried all means to try and save the boy who was quickly ascending to the sky. And so in desperation called some woodsmen to cut that corn stalk down. “But do you know,” he said, “that stalk grew iso fast that they couldn’t hit the same spot twice. That Swedish fertilizer were sure 'good stuff.” Finally, however, I some feller came by and he ipreached so much hot air that the corn stalk just withered and died. The Trail Mates thought it high time they returned to their campfire and in so doing sang a populär number of the Sons of the Pioneers “Just the Touch of God’s Hand”. At the close of the program Ruby Johnson, president of the Luther League, mentioned that the League was challenging the Ladies’ Aid and the Brotherhood in a com-petition to see who can raise the most money by the end of the year. If this is an example of the League’s endeavours it would be worthwhile standing by. I hear tell there’s talk of a Halloween Party at the end of th month. If there is, 1’11 bet there’ll be many a banshee hav-ing a wail of a time. Svensk-Amerikansk litteratur icke uppskattad i Sverige. The Vinking Fund i New York.
