Martin Berg Johnsen Skog, 2936 W. 42nd Ave., har den 26 juni avlidit 46 år gammal. Han sörjes närmast av maka, en son, Hans, två döttrar, Marlyn och Norma, två bröder, Swen och Robert, samt fyra bröder och två systrar i Norge. Begravningen ägde rum den 30 juni från Mt. Pleasant Undertaking Co., Kingsway och llth. Officiant var Rev. Trygstad.

En sorglig händelse har

träffat, nämligen att en svensk, Lars Burk, förlorat livet i sitt i sitt lilla hus på Second Ave., här i Dawson, genom kvävning av rök, då hans sängkläder fattade eld. Må nu detta som hänt vår landsman, Lars Burk, bli en varning för andra. Han hade nämligen den 25 maj kommit hem senit, och efter vad som framkommit och med säkerhet ådagalagts, hade han gått till sängs vid midnatt och'haft en cigarett i munnen och somnat. Sängkläder och madrass har så antänts. En granne såg rök tränga ut från hans hus. Brandkåren, som blev alarmerad, kom inom några minuter tillstädes och började eldsläckningen. När brandmanskapet inträngde i bostaden och röken något skingrats, hittades Burk på golvet. Antagligen hade han vaknat och försökt ta sig ut, men med lungorna fulla av rök från sängkläderna, hade han blivit oförmögen att finna dörren. Så snart han blivit funnen och utburen ägnades honom behandling och blev skyndsamt tagen till St. Mary’s Hospital, men alla försök som gjordes för att återkalla honom till livet voro fruktlösa. Och så fick han sluta sitt liv utan att ha återfått sitt medvetande.
Begravningen ägde rum den 27 maj och sorgegudstjänsten
The Swedish-Canadian Rest Home, situated on the North Shore of Burrard Inlet, a short distance from the Second Nar-rows Bridge and on the new Deep Cove Highway, was offi-cially opened on May the 15th. The Association is proceeding with the furnishing bf the Home and to date some twenty applications have been accepted for admission to the Home. All of forty more persons can shortly be accommodated in this Home and we are certain that the number of Swedish-Canadian aged citizens that are eligible for admission greatly exceed the number that at present can be accommodated.
We wiish to point out that the only qualifications required are, that you are a pensioner, in possession of reasonable health and strength.

The Scandinavian Picnic.
At the Melvadeer Lodge, Six Mile Lake, Prince George, B. C., on June 19 we had our annual Summer Picnic. Owing to rain we had to be inside the biggest part of the day, however, one hundred, and families, were there to enjoy a lovely “smörgåsbord” provided by the members that made our efforts and work, which is attached to this picnic, very successful and enjoy ed by all.
The sun came out about 3.30 in the afternoon. and we soon got everybody out to enjoy a few races by young and old, after which we returned to the Hall to dance to Richard Nel-son’s music for several houre. Pete Strandberg and Mrs. Nelson gave Mr. Nelson a chance to have a couple of dances. We could see Mrs. Bodin and Richard going around like a top. Miss Nelson played the piano!
