So armed with a blankett each and a bottle of hot coffee and some lunch, we sat off for our night of vigil with Flora. How I had longed, ever since my arrival here to get a glimpse oi some things the&e dear old peo-ple had told me about. Nearly all of them had at some time or other, seen or heard thesc supernatural folks in which the oountryside seems to abound. On our way, we passed the big rock that less than a century ago, people declared would turn a complete somersault at the stroke of twelve on midsummer night. “Won‘t, you please, turn over just once for me,” I beg-ged, but the old thing just glared out of his moss-rimmed eyes and looked as solid as ii he ihadn’t turned an inch since the great avalanche slid down the Scandinavian peninsula during the ice age. “Perhaps I will have better luck up there on the mountain,” I said, but of course I had very little hope.
We were by now comfortable arranged for the night in a per-fect setting. What a panorama! Tall pine and fir trees with a few birches and aspens were al) around us. The ground was cov-ered with a deep green carpet of moss, there was even a long flat stone covered with moss as comfortable as a soffa. Way down in the valley were the homes with the birches at the entrance. The merry-makers were around the maypole and the stains of the violin and ac-cordion floated even upp to us at times.
Many thoughts and reflec-tions filled our minds. For so many centuries had people lived on this soil we now looked up-on, below us. Hundreds of midsummer nights had come and gone, with the same river gur-gling, the same lake looking like a mirror, white stemmed birch trees growing in groups, with the cuckoo bird singing his “cuckoo” from the branch-
My friends had given me a real send-off. Teas and gather-ings in my honor had been the order for many days past, and now this moming they had gathered in a body at the bus station where they bade me a sad farewell. 1 assured them 1 would return again someday, but America seemed like the end of the world to them.
The scenery along the way was so enchanting, it did in a sense, lessen the loneliness 1 felt, even though it added to my regret at leaving all this behind. Towards evening we ar-rived in the city of the Goths on the cliffs.

I used to say Swe-den was getting awfully short of people but half its popula-tion must have been on the shoreline that Saturday after-noon, the 19th of July. Bands were playing and a continuous “Hurrah! Hurrah! Hurrah! Hurrah!” came from the mul-titude of people. This foursome hurrah means the same as Hip! Hip!! Hurray! as we say it here.
With much clanking of ca-bles and removing of gang-planks and bridges, we felt again that wobbling sensation under our feet. With pain in our hearts we saw through a blurred vision “The Hills of Home” disappear into the dis-tance. We were going out again to the tumult of a busy world and we felt deep regret at leaving this land where people dwelt in such peaceful and trusting barmony. The rays of the evening sun was reflected in colors of gold on the waves of the North Sea, and the sojourn in
our “Lullaby Land” had to an end.

Situationen
på cykelfronten förbättras oavbrutet. Material och reservdelar för 80,000 cyklar har nu importerats som kommer att att utsläppas i marknaden nästa vår.
Tillgången på byggnadsmaterial förbättras för varje dag som går och som en foljd därav äro nu ca. 5b stenhus under byggnad i Helsingfors. Det enda som försvårar byggnadsverksamheten är bristen på kapital.
Brödsansoneringen
har upphört på restauranger, hotell odh värdshus från med
A.-B. L. M. Ericsson
har påbörjat uppförandet av en ny fabrik för tillverkning av telefoner. Fabriken kommer att byggas i Druimsö nära Helsingfors.
Försvarets utgifter
upptaga nu endast 5.7 proc, av statens budget. För närvarande finnas ca. 1,500 platser obesatta i armén och det har visat såg mycket svårt att få kunnigt befäl och underbefäl.
Sedan kraftstationerna
i norra Finland närma sig sin fullbordan väntas en stor ökning av den industriella verksamheten i landets nordligaste delar. En följd därav är naturligtvis ökad skeppsfart och städerna Tomeå, Kemi och Uleå-borg ha planerat stora utvidgningar och förbättringar av sina hamnar. En del av dessa arbeten äro redan påbörjade. Sålunda fördjupas Uleåborgs hamn nu till 24 fot i den inre hamnen och 30 fot i den yttre.
Ett utmärkt resultat
uppnådde nyligen två guld-vaskare i Ivola-trakten. De vas-
ges vara ytterst sällsynta i Lappland. Många nya guldvas-kare har skyndat sig till fyndplatsen.
Produktionen
av gummiiartiklar har stadigt förbättrats och man har nu redan kommit så långt att fabrikerna kan ha ett par månaders förråd på hand. Tillverkningen omfattar i främsta rummet gummiskor, samt bil- och cykelringar.
Det beräknas
att cirka 20,000 nylänningar , under valdagarna vistades i Sverige och då de flesta av dem voro svenskskpråkiga betyder det att sverigevistelsen kostade de svenska minst två platser i den nya riksdagen.
Stora skogseldar
rasar i norra Finland och Lappland- De har tagit sin början på den ryska sidan. Militär har utkommenderats för att hejda eldens framfart.
Finlands legation
i Stockholm har haft bråda dagar denna sommar ty legationen har dagligen belägrats av människor som önska visera sina pass för resa till Finland. Tretton kontorsbiträden äro anställda för att sköta om viseringarna och arbeta de ofta till långt inpå natten. Rekordantalet dagliga ansökningar är runt 6,000 medan medeltalet för hela året per dag utgöres av 400.
Flera svåra olyckor
har i sommar inträffat i Lappland där exploderande minor och granater tagit många liv.
Till följd av osäkra
arbetsförhållanden i Vasa hamn har Pargas Kalkberg beordrat alla sina båtar för lastning och lossning till Jakobstad.

Here on the highway below us, many a young man had walked with his flaxen-haired betrothed to the old brown church to “there” become partners for life. On the same road had little babies been carried to be baptised. Through these same streets had long cortages moved slowly as someone had gone to his or hers final rest-ing place, with the “bing — bong” of massive church bells, centuries old, ringing out ovei the oountryside.
Again We could hear the mu-sic of the violin below. The light of the midnight sun had turned everything an amber color, a twig snapped some-where among the trees, a loon called to his mate, a light breeze caused the aspen leaves to flutter. We were now en-tirely under the magic spell of the Goddess Flora. Gone were the cares, the regrets and hurts of life. Would that we could thus fly away and rest forever in such blessed place in the im-mortal mansions of Valhalla!
FARWELL TO THE NORTH-LAND.
The bus was speeding south-ward along the beautiful river Klarån, en route to Gothenburg. All things comes to an end and, and so had my sojourn in this fairyland.

Nej, vi blir alldeles vilda av att tänka på det. Ni måste resa med oss hem i år — tänk så roligt vi kunde få allihopa på båten över. Som ni vet går det ju speciella julbåtar den 4 och 10 december, Svenska Amerika Linjens ‘Gripsholm’ och ‘Stockholm’, med julgranar, julmat och “nöjespappa”, men skulle vi inte kunna resa tillsammans redan den 25 oktober och göra “Stockholm” till en “Mårtens-gåsbåt” alldeles för oss själva? Tänk vad det skulle vara roligt! Är ni med om det, så lämna in ett brev till närmaste kontor eller agent för Svenska Amerika Linjen, som har min adress.

An Important Announcement from th.e
B.C. Hospital Insurance Service
To All Residents of British Columbia
It is the aim of the Provincial Government, through the B.C. Hospital Insurance Service, to provide British Columbia citizens with necessary general hospital care at premium rates which everybody will be able to afTord. The Plan also provides for the establishment of hospitals on a sound financial basis and is the first step towards creating better health facilities for British Columbia. The Hospital Insurance Act States that all residents of British Columbia ■will participate in the Government-sponsored plan.
TIME OF REGISTRATION
Registration is compulsory and will begin early in August.
PREMIUMS
$15.00 per annum for single persons 16 years of age and over who are supporting themselves financially.
$24.00 per annum for Head of a family with one dependent.
$30.00 per annum for Head of a family with more than one dependent.
Dependents—-A wife, and children under 16 yearg of age or other members of a family group living with or apart from the Head of a family for whom he is financially responsible. Further details are provided with registration forms*
BENEFITS
Public Ward Accommodation, Meals and Special Diets, Ward Nursing Care, Operating Room Facilities, Surgical Dressings and Casts, Available X-ray Service, Available Laboratory Service, Available Physio-Therapy, Approvcd Drugs.
Hospital Maternity Care without a waiting period.
No restrictions on the number of times or ex-tent of time that may be spent in hospital, so long as hospitalization is necessary.
Hospital Benefils will be available in the case of illness pre-existing the date when the Plan come» in to eflect.
Payment to Hospitals will be based on Hospital costs of public ward accommodation and services.
REGISTRATION AND PREMIUM PAYMENTS
Registration and payment of premiums may be carried out:
(a) by individuals,
(b) as a group,
(c) with the co-operation of Management.
Arrangements will be made for registration and payment of premiumi under group plans, sponsored by either employees themselves or with the assistance of Management.
METHOD OF PAYMENTS
Payment may be made by one of tbe following way»:
(a) Payment in full; (b) equal monthly stallments between October and March coverage for the full year 1949. This ia tended to help those peraons who cannot the premiums at one time.

EXEMPTIONS
All Insurance Companie», Associations and So-cieties providing Hospital Insurance coverage in British Columbia and persons subscribing to such plans are advised that under Section 8 subsection 1 of the Hospital Insurance Act, persons may be exempt from payment of premiums by the Commissioner, only where benefits to Beneficiaries and payment» to hospitals are at least equivalent to those provided under the Act.
Unlees specifieally exempted by the Commu. sioner, persons subscribing to other Hospital Insurance Plans will still be required to pay premiums under the Government Plan. To avo*d such a possibility subscribers to other plans should obtain assurance from their par-ticular Company or Association that the con-ditions providing for exemptions under the Government Plan will be met. Insurance Com-panies, Associations and Societies intending to meet the above conditions are invited to submit all necessary details to the Commissioner, Hospital Insurance Service, Parliament Buildings, Victoria. Exemptions other than that outlined above are as follows:
(a) Residents of an area where provision of general hospital service is not practic-able.
(b) Adherents or members in good standing of the Christian Science Church.
