Thus millions of people, though they may never have heard of Port Arthur, are looking to it for relief from their plight; hoping that from it will come food which will save them from starvation and all its horrors.
First visited by explorers in the middle of the seventeenth century, Port Arthur is located on Thunder Bay at the western end of Lake Superior. Settlers came into the district in 1678 and a trading station was founded in the vicinity. It was not '. ntil the nineteenth century that Port Arthur really ber n to grow. It was first known as “Dawson’s” but when in 1870 the Duke of Con-narght’s Regiment landed here it was renamed Prince Arthur’?, Landing — for the Duke was also Prince Arthur — The place was quickly settled and ’n 1883 the name was changed to Port Arthur. Almost a quart-er of a century later Port Arthur was incorporated as a city and has grown • steadily ever since.
Port Arthur has a population of over 50,000. Although it is an important grain port its in-habitants are employed in a variety of industries. There are several large paper milis located here and thousands of men are employed every year lum-bering in the forests around Port Arthur. There are also some important silver and gold mines in the district.
During the war corvettes and mine-sweepers were built here in one of the largest shipbuild-ing plants on the Great Lakes. iPlere also are located several foundries, wood-working fac-tories and machinery works.

Many of the people who len Bourkes from six to fitieea years ago are now moving baca again and that is causing con-siderable satisfaction to us who has been here thirty years o. more and is a good sign tha Bourkes is just as good as any other place to live in. Here are a lot of people working in the bush now, taking out pitprops, pulpwood and timber. Four sawmills have been in operation the last few years and it is surprising to see what can be taken out from the forest, that we thirty years ago con-sidered of no value.

I en längre artikel beträffande båttrafiken mellan Europa och U.S.A. utsänd av Common Council for American Unity meddelades det att Svenska Amerika Linjens båtar voro fullsatta till nästa sommar. Detta är långt ifrån förhållandet, påpekar G. H. Lundbeck, Jr., linjens verkställande direktör i Amerika.
“Ehuru biljettbeställningar under våren och försommaren överskred tillgängliga platser, har vi dock ej varit nödsakade att neka plats på våra båtar efter Gripshohns avresa den 7 september”, sade han.

My brother, in a letter just received from my home in Nör-way, said: “There are no ones like the Swedes and I can’t see how we could have survived those awful years if we had hot got help from Sweden!” One other friend of mine in Norway writes: “The people in Norway are unable in words to thank the Swedes for what they have done to us under the war years.’’
Should not those things be known to the world in a much greater extent than what is the case to-day? When the fu-ture discloses why this war was fought, the ideology of the Swedish Government in 1940 will be seen in its proper light and appreciated. The world has a lot to learn from Sweden and the services its Government rendered the world when it did not send military assistance to Finland in their war against Russia in the early days of the last war.
As a Norwegian I wish to thank the Swedes for wh-’t they did and are doing to heln the unfortunate. “Brödrafolkets Väl” was not an emptv phrase. The Swedish peonle have proven in deeds that thev meant it. Thanks to Sweden!
