Hes. 22:24-28. (Betald annons, införd av Ed-gar Sjödin). A Visit to Saskatchewan By Rev. Nels H. Norbeck, Pastor of the First Swedish Lutheran Church, Vancouver, and Immanuel Lutheran, New Westminster "How dear to my heart are the scenes of my childhood". That, my dear frien ds, expresses my sentiments, ex en though I could not sing it for you to save my life. Of me, alas, the words of Charles Lamb are pathetically true; "Sen-timentally I am disposed to har-mony; but organically I am in-capable of a tune. Come with me to the Goat Ranch some time and hear me try to sing “When you and 1 were Young Maggie ”, and you will unreservedly grant me the right to the last part of that statement! 1 just returned from the twen-tieth visit to my parental home • since I left it twenty pears ago. i The familiar scenes have if any- ; thing become dearer with the pas-• sing years. In the centre of those scenes stands my mother. Brother John and a nephew, Clarence Pearson met me at the station in Broadview. In a short while we had traversed the eighl miles to mother‘s home. We youth 1 attended Sunday School and was confirmed. Many of the original settlers still remain, and occupied special places of honor during the celebration. Dr. C. E. Hoffsten from the Zion Lutheran Church in Winnipeg gave the fes-tive address. It was a blessed ex-peiience. My fancy took wings. I saw the temple in which we met take shape. 1 saw those hardy pioneers, even before they had adequate shelters for themselves, laborously hauling logs up the steep hills of the QuAppelle. cut in the valley below. Across the trackless miles they are hauled and then shaped into the sanctu-ary that has served the commu-nity these forty-five years. And 1 asked myself, "what made them do that?” The question was an-swered in my own mind at that service as the words of Jesus were read, "1 will build my Church". From the human angle the ques- DET KOMMER ÄTT BLI HÅRT tion was again answered föllow- another store to my treasury ing the service, when 1 visited the pleasant memories. bed-side of one of those pioneers . who had participated in the con-struction of that church, but now 1 about 96 years old, bed-ridden | and nearly blind, was not able to attend. In his presence 1 bowed my head in prayer. 1 thanked God that it was given us His children here below to lift our eyes from earth to heaven, and the old pioneer interjected, "Yes, God be thanked! That is what we need!” Then, too, 1 had the pleasure of preaching in the churches of Stockholm and Dubuc, where Rev. Herman Anderson is doing a splendid and feithful work. Much could be said about that, i and about the many old-timers 1 was priviliged to see again, but my letter is already too long. Let it suffice to say, that these scenes of my childhood, coupled with the usual fishing trips to Round Lake, nestling in the beautiful QuAppelle Valley, has added of DIAMOND. "Him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. And there is joy among the ängels of God over every single soul that responds to that love. On the very day of my arrival 1 was privileged to attend the church community picnic. The church-minded and eommunity-minded are there, and that in-cludes almost all. Only a few are too busy to come out and shake hands with their neighbors and help a good cause along. Pastor Solomonson is there. His face beams upon his flock. He has shepherded them for twelve years —he is acquainted with their joys and sorrows. Upon the arms of ! prayer he has brought them singly and collectively before the throne | of grace. It makes him happy to see his people happy. There were games and races for all, and nearly all participated. j Win or lose matters not so much.
