RAILROADERS give TO RED CROSS.
Canadian National Railway s employees throughout British Columbia gave another boost to Canada s war effort recently, when a cheque for $500.00 was presented to he B. C. Division of the Canadian Red Cross Söciety. 1 he railway men requested that their donation be earmarked espe-cially for relief of bombed vic-tims in Great Britain. This donation is the se'cond major gift towards war relief made by railway, steamships, telegraph, and express employees of the C.N..R. in B. C., the sum of $1,500.00 having been given toward the Chi!dren’s Refugee Fund in September. Mr. A. D. Paul, car fore-man s clerk for Port Mann shops, is tbe chairman of the Committee.

Mången har varit villrådig huru vida sända matvarupaket till Finland kommer fram eller ej på grund av de av kriget i transporten påkallade svårigheterna. Vi kunna därför nu meddela att de första bekräfte^erna på paketens ankomst till Finland föreligga och ha de därför framkommit relativt snabbt o'ch utan några förhinder. 1 samtliga fall uttala emo-tågarna sitt stora tack för den välkomna hjälpen av matvaror som i dag icke kunna erhådas i Finland.

get. Svenskstäderna skola bli en prydnad för varje stad, och det blir en sådan "svenskeby” i Narvik, Bodö, Hemnesberget, Nam-sos, Steinkjer, Kristiansund, Mol-de och Åndalsnes. Så vitt möjligt skola gatorna i dessa “svenskebyer” få svenska namn.
På olika håll i de krigshärjade områdena har man nu avslutat grundgiutningsarbetena för de 500 trähus vilka såsom gåva överlämnats från Sverige. 1 dessa hus räknar man med att 2.500 norrmän skola få sina hem. 210 av de svenska husen skola placeras i Nordlandet, varav enbart i Narvik och Bodö över 100. Nord-tröndelag får 80 hus och Möre-Romsdal 1 I 0.

ÖLANDS SOUTHERN POINT.

N THE most southerly part of Öland lies a royal demesne, cal-
led Ottenby. It is a rather large es-tate which extends from shore to shore, straight across the island; and it is remarkable in that it always been a haunt for large bird-compa-nies.
In the Seventeenth Century, when

They know how to tog themselves out.” "If they were not so conspicuous, they wouldn’t have to dig their nests in the earth, but could lie above ground, like any one else,” said a brown mallard-duck. “They may try as much as they please, but theyTl never get anywhere with such noses,” remarked a gray goose. And this was actually true. The burrow ducks have a big knob at the base of the bill, which spoils their ap-pearance.
Close to the shore, sea-gulls and sea-swallows moved forward in the water, and fished. “What kind of fish are you catching?” •asked a wild goose. ‘.Stickleback! —Öland stickleback. lt’s the best stickleback in the world,” said a gull. "Won t you taste of it?” And he flew up to the goose with his mouth full of little fishes, and wanted to give her some. “Ugh! Do you think 1 eat such. filth?” said the wild goose in disgust.
