The Club performed worthy of as much mention as the beautiful and intricate we w-ould like to think. Things have happened, however, during the past ten years which seem to justify our own belief in the importance of the Lekstugan and its work, not only among our own people, but also in the eultural work of the whole city. When the late Sigurd Lindeberg formed the first Swedish Folk Dance group in the early spring of 1929, soon after his arrival from Californiå, it was almost certainly without any thought of the tremendous future that lay ahead. Important Folk Dance Club Meeting. Election of Officers. -----0------- The Swedish Folk Dance Club Lekstugan will hold its regular December meeting on Thursday night, December 15, at 8 p.m., in the Swedish Hall; 1320 Hastings Street East. Since officers for the coming year are to be eleeted at this time. it is of utmost importance that all members be present. Persons who are interested in the present and future work of Lekstugan are invited to join, and the Club direets espe-cially an appeal to the young people of Swedish descent in the city to také an active in-terest. Practically every other nation in the Folk Festival Society is represented by their younger members in dances and songs, and tliere does not seem to be any valid reason years, during which time se-veral eXhibitions were held — mainly arranged by the group itself or in connection with other Swedish concerts and dances. The most important step in the early history of the group was taken when it was decided to form an independent organization with its own con-stitution. The first executive consisted of: A. Swanson, pres. R. Anderson, vice pres.; Valborg Johanson, treas.; H. Axel son, seeretary; S. Lindeberg, dance leader, and Emma Bergklint, assistant dance leader. Interest in the work of the Club was still great, but for some reason or another it was — and has remained — of a passive kind. That is to say, everybody seemed perfectly glad to witness the performan-ces of the beautiful old dan- i ces, but nobody was willing to join the elub and take a more' active part in its progress. A majority of the present members joined the Club in its fiist ^ears and it is only during the' last season that the member-' ship has been augmented by' a younger edition of the Swe- whatever for the take a back seat spect.
